FILM FIGHTING WORKSHOP
“Hits & Falls”

with Director & Fight Choreographer Ben Cunis

Saturday, August 29 | 6:00–9:00 PM
in-STUDIO | Unit A Stage Area

WHAM! POW! UGH! BOOM!

For students who have already completed Film Fighting 101, this advanced workshop goes deeper into some of the most fun and essential skills of performing physical action for the camera.

Director and Fight Choreographer Ben Cunis will lead participants through techniques for taking hits, falling, rolling, and acting DAMAGE, all while learning how to create exciting physical performances safely and believably.

If you watched the World Cup this year, saw an Oscar-worthy dive, and thought, “I could do that better,” this class is for you!

The workshop will culminate in a short choreographed fight sequence that will be filmed and edited for participants to use in their reels.

WHAT TO BRING

Students should arrive dressed in comfortable clothing that allows for unrestricted movement and wear secure, closed-toe athletic shoes.

Please bring:

  • Water

  • A change of clothes

  • Any personal items you may need after physical activity

This is an active, movement-based workshop. Participants should expect to work on the floor, fall, roll, react to simulated strikes, and perform choreographed physical sequences.

SAFETY

Safety is the first priority of all stage and film combat training.

All physical contact and choreography must be performed only as instructed by the fight choreographer. Participants should never improvise strikes, falls, physical contact, or fight choreography without the instructor's direction.

Students are expected to communicate immediately with the instructor if they feel uncomfortable with a movement, need a modification, or need to stop an exercise. Participants should work within their individual physical abilities and never attempt a movement they do not feel they can perform safely.

The goal of film fighting is not to actually hurt your scene partner. The goal is to create the convincing illusion of impact for the camera while protecting everyone involved.

PREREQUISITE

This workshop is intended for students who have previously completed Film Fighting 101 or have received approval from in-STUDIO to participate.

REGISTRATION & REFUND POLICY

Space is limited due to the physical nature of the workshop and the amount of individual instruction required.

A $50 deposit is required to reserve your space and is non-refundable.

Any request for a refund of additional tuition paid must be received at least 14 days prior to the workshop. Because instructor staffing and class capacity are determined based on enrollment, refunds cannot be issued for cancellations made within 14 days of the workshop.

Registration is for this specific workshop date and may not be transferred to another class or program without prior approval from in-STUDIO.

By registering, participants acknowledge that this is a physical, movement-based performance workshop and agree to follow all instructor directions and established safety procedures.
