FLUENT: Preparatory Immersion Series

Monday at 5PM | High School Preparatory | Six Classes

Class Meeting Dates: August 17, August 24, August 31, September 14, September 21, and September 28

Please note: Class will not meet on Labor Day, Monday, September 7. The sixth and final class will take place on Monday, September 28, during in-STUDIO’s regularly scheduled production and makeup period.

The ability to carry a leading role begins with learning how to prepare for more than one scene.

In Fluent, High School Preparatory actors will explore six connected scenes from an original screenplay about Atlas, a teenager who supports their father as his ability to communicate begins to change. As Atlas and Gene begin learning basic ASL, Atlas must reconsider years of frustration and discover the ways their father tried to express love.

This guided Preparatory experience introduces actors to the responsibility of reading a complete screenplay and tracking one character’s journey across multiple weeks.

Training will include:

  • Guided full-script reading and scene breakdown

  • Identifying objectives, obstacles, and emotional changes

  • Building consistent character behavior across six scenes

  • Strengthening independent preparation habits

  • Performing connected scenes for the camera

  • Preparing simple ASL as part of the character’s journey

  • Receiving professional guidance from ASL specialist

No previous ASL experience is required. Actors are expected to participate, prepare between classes, remain curious, and demonstrate growth.

The Labor Day break will serve as an additional preparation week. Students should continue reading the complete screenplay, rehearsing their assigned material, and practicing the introductory ASL provided for the program.

TUITION NOTE:
All tuition, refund, and attendance policies for this series are outlined in our student handbook and available online. A payment plan may be set up at checkout.

There are no makeup classes for this program, as this class uses it’s own unique script.

Registration without prior invitation is not permitted and will not be refunded. To request an audition or verify eligibility, please contact auditions@in-studio.org before enrolling.
