This October, our Adult Traditional Training class will explore the performance and camera techniques used to create suspense, thrillers, and horror on screen.
Actors will work with thematic scenes adapted from in-STUDIO’s annual Horror Series while learning how filmmakers create tension through performance, framing, restricted perspective, shallow focus, practical effects, sound, and trick photography.
Each 2.5-hour class will continue to combine classical acting technique, on-camera performance, and playback review. The October theme gives actors an opportunity to apply those foundational skills within heightened cinematic circumstances without losing the honesty, specificity, and connection required for the camera.
Classical Technique & Performance Fundamentals
One portion of each class will remain dedicated to traditional acting exercises that strengthen presence, listening, emotional availability, physical behavior, vocal clarity, point of view, and moment-to-moment connection.
These foundational skills help actors remain truthful and responsive, even when performing within unusual, suspenseful, or highly imaginative circumstances.
Suspense & Horror Camera Lab
Each week, actors will work on one focused scene inspired by our annual Horror Series. By concentrating on a single camera assignment per class, actors will have time to explore the scene, receive direction, make adjustments, and understand how the performance works alongside the technical elements.
This program is designed for actors with prior training. New actors should join our Beginner program before entering the Saturday 1:00 PM Traditional Class or take private lessons until they are prepared to participate confidently. Some actors may need to audition in order to demonstrate their current skill level.
There will be no class on October 31, as all four required classes will have already been conducted.
Tuition covers the complete monthly session rather than individual classes. Because of the structured group format and limited weekly availability, make-up classes are not available for missed absences.
All students are responsible for reviewing the in-STUDIO Student Guide before enrollment. The guide outlines important studio policies regarding attendance, tuition, student behavior, inclement weather, and class progression.
